What is 2-deoxy-D-glucose ?
The molecule 2-deoxy-D-glucose is not a novel molecule it's already existing for different purposes it was used as a diagnostic tool in pet scanning and also it has the potential use of using as an anti-cancer therapy. Clinical trials have shown to see it has any beneficial effect on symptomatic covid 19 patients.
2-deoxy-D-glucose has been approved by the drug controller general of India for use in symptomatic Covid 19 patients so this molecule generated a lot of interest. Now as you all know, Glucose is the most common source of cellular energy and a substrate for many biological processes because every cell in our body needs glucose. It is the universal feel for all of our cells. Since it's a hydrophilic molecule so it needs a transporter and the transporter for glucose is glucose transporters there are a variety of glucose transporters, we can say (for example) glucose transporter 1 to glucose transporter 14 .
